JACKSON COUNTY CREEKS
I was born in the Howard Hospital in Pelham, Georgia. My father, Irvin Brim Willis was born in Cairo and lived in the Spence community just south of Pelham. My mother, Sabra LaRue Curles was born and raised in Pelham.
My Dads family lived in Spence for several generations, in the same house. Dads cousin was Winston Willis who owned the theater in Pelham and Dad worked there while he was in high school in Cairo. Dads parents were Almond Willis and Ethel Rigsby.
My mothers family lived in and around Pelham. Her parents were Wilburn Jessie Curles and Thelma Clyde Haire. They owned a store in Pelham when I was born named the "Little Red Star" and he worked for a while at the Coats and Clark thread mill in Pelham. Mom went to Pelham High School where she played basketball.
We moved to Moultrie when I was about three and to Tallahassee when I was about four. At age six my parents had divorced and my step-father joined the U.S. Air Force and I moved around alot. I graduated high school at Fort Walton Beach High School in Fort Walto Beach, Florida in 1972. In 1974, I moved back to Tallahassee where I still live today. In October 1975, I became a Deputy Sheriff with the Leon County Sheriff's Office and retired from that agency as a Sergeant in May of 2008 after 32 years of service. I am the father of three daughters and have three grandsons.
